Working
on the Blaster - August 5th, 2008

Since I can't finish assembling my armor (straps, velcro , sizing, etc.) without some help, I started working on my blasters. I'm doing a DC-15S, the short clone blaster version. I found some templates online, but they proved to be undersized, confusing but somewhat accurate. I modified those templates somewhat and referenced the visual guide. I cut the blaster out of 5/8" MDF, sanded, fitted and glued it all together with Liquid Nails. Clamped them together and sanded them down again.
I also worked on the end tubes. I made them out of PVC, PVC caps and styrene. I'll try to finish them up tomorrow. Now...you may notice the wood dowel on the end of the blaster handle. Well, Rick made an interesting observation.
Notice the similarities between the DC-15S (short blaster) and the DC-15 (long rifle). The primary stock on both are identical. Using the assumption that the clone equipment is interchangeable and that the clone weapons are similar to clone armor (ie. interchangeable), the one would think that the primary stock is standard and the barrel and rear stock is changed out according to the mission. Ok? So back to the wood dowel. I plan on drilling a hole through the PVC pipe barrel and wood dowel rod. I can then put a cotter pin (or similar metal pin) with a nice black cap through that hole. This will allow me to (after the premier) build a long rifle barrel and swap it out with the short barrel. Pretty cool, huh? I will also make a rear shoulder stock to attach to the primary stock and attach it the same way (cotter pin). In the right picture, you can also see the ammo boxes I made for the blaster.
Rick came over as well and worked on trimming and assembling his armor. He also painted some of his stuff and is close to finishing his helmet. We're still waiting on the resin to finish up the aerators and actuators for the helmets.
I also made some templates for the helmet vents. I'll go get some stickers made in the next few days.
