Armor Party, Trimming, Assembling and Painting- July 30th, 2008

Rick, Austin, Rick and Len all came over this evening to work on the helmets and armor. Before we begin, I thought I would share some pictures of my "Clone Bible". I've had this folder since my first year in Architecture school (1993) and have used it for everything. For the past three years it's held everything I've collected and printed for my Clone research. Screen caps, fan made armor images, measurements, everything.

After letting the paint dry overnight, here's how the chest piece looks, before and after rinsing the toothpaste off.

I created some cardboard templates to trim out the ear pieces and started assembling my helmet. Regrettably, I ran out of the rivets I needed to assemble it, so I didn't get to finish it. I'll pick up some more so I can finish it and paint it.

I went ahead and painted the top of the helmet. I need to get some narrower painters tape so I can mask off the small stripes that are on the front of the helmet. The following pictures show the different phases: PlastiDip, white Primer, masking and red paint, removing the tape and washing off the toothpaste with a water hose.

Some various photos of the guys trimming and assembling.

Rick and I also started working on our shoes. Since we both bought generic shoes, we used a liquid PlastiDip (instead of a spray), to fill some of the shoe indentions. We'll see how it works out once it's dry.

All the guys left at about 10pm, but I stayed up. I didn't notice the time, so I didn't go to bed till about 2am. I also got a little forgetful in taking progress pictures. I sprayed my forearms and also weathered and sprayed my shins. So, my armor is done (though I still need to finish weathering, seal it, add straps and velcro and fit it all).
