Assembling
and Painting the Chest, Assembling the Helmet - July 29th, 2008

After work this evening I finished assembling my chest piece and abs. The belt is riveted to the front in the same way I did the back. I then made styrene brackets for the boxes and glued those to the belt. The next step was to PlastiDip the whole piece and then spray it with white primer after it dried. When the primer was dry, I masked off certain areas, applied toothpaste and sprayed the beautiful red spray paint. I haven't washed the toothpaste off yet, so you'll have to wait for the next update to see the result.
In between the waits for paint to dry, I started working on my second helmet. It went alot faster this time trimming it out and assembling since I've already "been there, done that". This helmet pull was very sucessful in that I didn't get any of the previous webbing and the jowl was alot thicker. I trimmed out the eyes and mouth, sanding and filing before assembly. It's easier to trim when not assembled. Anyway...the front and back assemble to allow a 2 1/4" +/- width at the ear pieces. Ironically, this 2 1/4" +/- is just the right distance to allow the top piece to fit right on without any major adustments. As on the first helmet (080608), I cut out backer styrene to strengthen the sides and give the machine screws something to hold on to. Glue and clamp the halves together and let sit overnight.
