I spent most of Saturday working on my armor. It was 101° today. But, I had to continue on in order to finish my armor by August 15th. I trimmed the biceps down and assembled the butt piece with the belt.
On Sunday, Tony and Rick came over to work on their armor. We worked from 10am to about 8pm. It got up to 102° today. Plus, since we had to pull some armor today, the Devil's Oven was running at 450° to heat the plastic. There's no telling how hot it was in the garage today.
Since Rick and I had already trimmed all of our armor by today, Tony worked on trimming his while Rick and I pulled the rest of everybody's armor.
Tony trimming and assembling.
I assembled my ab piece. Since I'm doing a clam shell armor design, I riveted the chest to the ab. This will then attach to the back piece via shoulder straps.
Rick and I then started spray painting our assembled pieces. We used the toothpaste method of weathering our armor. We also used a PlastiDip Spray to give our armor a more realistic finish. I used one layer of PlastiDip and two layers of White Primer. For the colored pieces, I masked of the armor, applied toothpaste where wanted, sprayed the color in two layers, and then, when dry, used the water hose to wash off the toothpaste. The resulting weathering is very cool and I am very excited about the final product.
Jacen thought the armor was cool too!! |
