I continued painting the helmet. The toothpaste weathering method is pretty impressive. Smear it on where you want it, paint it, let it dry and then wash it off with a soft cloth and water. Pretty cool. I then taped off the areas that were going to be painted grey and sprayed again. Photos three and four haven't been washed off yet, so the bumps you see is the toothpaste under the paint. I'll wash it off tonight after it's dried.
I used a tack cloth to wipe down the inside and outside of the helmet. I sprayed gray gloss on the inside and gray primer on the outside. Note to self: don't spray primer on styrene on a windy day. For some reason the primer attracted all sorts of fuzzy floaties. After I sprayed the metallic finish on, you can see them quite clearly. So, after the metallic paint had dried, I lightly sanded the finish to get the fuzzies off. Most of them sanded off. I'll weather the rest so, hopefully, it's not too noticable.
After the initial metallic finish and sanding, I then applied toothpaste and sprayed it again. After another two metallic coats, the fuzzies weren't too noticable.
I also started work on the electronics boxes for the helmet interior. I plan on building out my bucket to match the EU helmet design based on the MR mini helmets (seen in the last two photos). I doubt I'll have them ready for tomorrow night's meeting, but they will be a work in progress.
