Trimming out the Helmet - June 1st, 2008

While Tony and Rick were pulling their armor, I started work on the helmet. I want to get it completed in time for the June 12th monthly club meeting.

I cut out the visor and heated it up in the oven on a cookie sheet. The plan was to heat it up just a little bit and then put it on the side of a bucket to give it a curve. But, as you can see, Rick and I got distracted with something else and left it in the oven for too long. It made the plastic bubble up and gave the viewer a "cool" psycadelic effect. But, that's not what you want in a visor, so we heated another one and it curved perfectly (as seen in the second photo).

We also did a preliminary assembly with duct tape to make sure our trims were correct. The trims came out pretty good, but as you can see in the photo, the top of the helmet sits a little too high. So, I'll trim that down next time I work on the helmet.

We also finished the ab/crotch buck and drilled the airholes into the detailed areas.
